Congratulations to the winners of the Dealmakers of 2012 awards

Congratulations to all of the winners of the Dealmakers of 2012 awards, awarded last night at a gala event jointly run by Lexpert, DeloitteThe Globe and Mail and Thomson Reuters in Toronto. The Globe and Mail’s special section on Big Deals was published today to coincide with the awards.

As the only program of its kind in Canada, the Canadian Dealmakers program recognizes participants who have made a significant contribution to the M&A market. The awards honour Canadian companies and individuals whose transactions have significantly impacted their industry through innovation and growth; establishment of best practices; enhancement of customer needs and products; and creation of value.

Below is a list of the winning companies and deals for 2012:

  1. The Consumer Business award went to Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. for its acquisition of Statoil Fuel & Retail ASA.
  2. The Media award and Telecommunications and Foreign Outbound – US award went to MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. for its acquisition of Space Systems/Loral Inc
  3. The Energy award went to Pembina Pipeline Corporation for its acquisition of Provident Energy Ltd.
  4. The Financial award went to TMX Group Limited for its acquisition of TMX, CDS and Alpha
  5. The Industrials award went to GENIVAR Inc. for its acquisition of WSP Group PLC
  6. The Information Technology award and Foreign Outbound – Global award went to CGI Group Inc. for its acquisition of Logica PLC
  7. The Mid-Market award went to DHX Media Ltd. for its acquisition of Cookie Jar Group
  8. The Utilities award went to AltaGas Ltd. for its acquisition of SEMCO Holding Corporation
  9. The Mining award went to Pan American Silver Corp. for its acquisition of Minefinders Corporation Ltd.
  10. The Value Creation award went to Entertainment One Ltd. for its acquisition of Alliance Films Inc and other deals it has completed over the past several years
  11. The Foreign Inbound – Asia award went to Petronas Carigali Canada Ltd. for its acquisition of Progress Energy Resources Corp.
