Big Deals: AuRico Gold Sells Ocampo Mine in Mexico

Big news in mining this week as AuRico Gold agreed to sell its Ocampo mine in Mexico, along with two related properties and a 50 per cent stake in its Orion project, to Minera Frisco for US$750 million. The deal is expected to close in December.

Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP is representing AuRico Gold with a team including Krisztián Tóth, John Turner, Greg Ho Yuen, Susan Newell and Jessica Catton.

Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP is representing the company’s Special Committee with a team including Kevin Thomson and Melanie Shishler.

Minera Frisco is advised by Forastieri y Roqueñi, S.C.

Back in July, AuRico closed the sale of its El Cubo mine and Guadalupe y Calvo project in Mexico to Endeavour Silver. The Fasken Martineau M&A team on that transaction included Krisztián Tóth and Jeff Gebert. Endeavour Silver was advised by Koffman Kalef LLP.

A description of the company’s $1.5 billion acquisition of Northgate Minerals was featured in Lexpert’s January 2012 issue.
